Olmsted Parks and Boulevards Restoration Project
Construction is scheduled to begin mid-November at Magnolia Boulevard to bring back the historically significant Madrona trees. The design consultant, Berger Partnership, worked with staff to observe that in some areas the large mature Madrona trees are being struck by mowing operations. It is thought that if the trees are surrounded and buffered by native plantings, then new Madrona trees would be more likely to establish. This work will install a gravel bed around the Madronas, which is thought to be ideal for their establishment. These areas will be surrounded by larger native plantings. Locations for these new trees consider viewsheds.
